Living on campus at Portland State is a convenient and viable way to access the city of Portland and the PSU campus. Portland State University, and the Department of Housing & Residence Life, operates within five guiding themes: to provide civic leadership through partnerships, improve student success, achieve global excellence, enhance educational opportunity, expand resources and improve effectiveness.
Their mission? "We believe that it is our mission to collaborate with students, staff and faculty to create and support global communities in an environment that inspires academic achievement, personal growth, civic leadership and social responsibility in superior facilities, while continuously supporting the mission of the University."
What they needed
I was hired by University Housing & Residence Life to manage several Drupal 7 websites primarily focused on content management and information architecture. At Portland State University, all departments are hosted through the roughly 300 multi-sites of the PSU Drupal 7 Enterprise system maintained by Web Communications. The primary goal was to have someone to centrally manage these Drupal sites, provide new and fresh content, and examine the Google Analytics to find the pages with the top hits.
How I helped
I worked with Housing, Residence Life, Residence Housing Association (www.pdx.edu/rha), and Summer Housing & Conferencing (www.pdx.edu/conferences) to create a well-structured, organized group of websites that would guide the over 20,000 unique page views to the ultimate destination. Requests would come in via email (for page-level adjustments, slider additions, or news updates) and would be handled within an hour. University Housing & Residence Life's website is one of the highest viewed sites (right below Admissions) and thus it was important to keep all the content up-to-date and looking fresh.
- Up-to-date content for current and incoming residents.
- Actively promoted events through Syndicated Content (PSU) and homepage sliders.
- Display implementation of the "My Story Lives Here" promotional campaign.
